We go through a lot of Rosary beads in our house.
Those beads connected by chains are routinely pulled apart by duelling siblings, so much so that I’ve invested in beading pliers just to fix them.
Plastic Rosary beads last until the beads start disintegrating under the constant chewing of younger children and even the knotted rope cords prove a menace when their wooden crosses strike heads when wielded by unruly toddlers.
So when I noticed the emergence of silicone bead Rosaries – yes, the same as teething necklaces – I was more than a little excited.
I contacted the supplier, Radiant Rosaries, immediately for more information. The coloured beads are thread on coloured cord and a metal crucifix is also used. Overall the look is bright, fresh and sturdy!
A little over a fortnight later we were the proud owner of four, individual, sets of silicone Rosary beads. Bright, colourful and big enough for little hands, the beads proved an instant hit in our house.
In fact, my two eldest children knelt down and prayed two decades of the Rosary almost immediately (if only their enthusiasm was consistent!) and my younger children were content just to look at, touch and chew on their new beads.
A month later they are all still intact, and look brand new despite prolonged abuse, and are the go-to sets of Rosary beads in our house. Master 20 months also takes his to Mass where he is more than happy to chew on the beads when his teething pains erupt.
At $20 each they are more expensive than regular Rosary beads, but they are handmade and are very durable. They are easy to clean if dirty, and are suitable for all ages.
I highly recommend in investing in a few pairs for the little people in your house.
