Yes, Children Too Can Offer Up Their Sickness!

The kids are sick. Again.

The bugs keep hitting and those kids of ours keep getting sick. What can we do? Germs are passed, the bugs brew more easily in the colder weather. No one’s fault and not much we can do!

Our whole family has unfortunately just been hit with a Gastro type bug (Ugh!). Through the many changes of bed sheets and doses of Panadol administered, I did learn something. We can actually teach our kids to be resilient through it all!

As parents, we need to be compassionate, affectionate and extremely loving towards our children, particular when they are unwell. But, we can also teach them how to deal with and manage their sore throats, snotty noses or achy bodies, with a smile!

We Do Not Complain

Mummy must not complain. Yes, it can be difficult, particularly if we ourselves are running low. Even though we need to keep going and see to the needs of the family, a constant positive attitude is essential! Our cheerful spirit is what’s going to help us go on.

Just by our example, children will learn that being sick isn’t the end of the world. We continue on the best we can.

Our Lord longs for us to give of ourselves completely, especially when we are physically exhausted. We learn to depend wholly on Him. Sanctity is our passport to heaven and we will always be happy doing the will of God.

So remember that even though it’s hard, love has to be put into action and we know that intense love for our family has no limits.

Teach Them To Offer Up Their Sufferings

What great value there is if children can learn to offer up their sufferings. To learn not to complain. To learn that whinging is useless. To teach the children to always be thinking of others and forgetting themselves.

Perhaps to focus on another sibling who is also feeling unwell and to be more affectionate towards them. We can even encourage them to give in to their personal preferences to make life more pleasant for their sibling. To go about their day with a positive and cheerful attitude and lift the mood of those around them.

Encourage them To Live Cheerfulness

They may be sick but they can still be happy! Remind them that even though they may be feeling unwell they can still be cheerful with their family.

Teach them to be grateful for all their comforts they are receiving compared to the many other children out there who are less fortunate than themselves.

Children are never too little or young to be taught. We can teach them that sickness or pain and suffering in this life is only temporary. We need to look up to heaven, to Jesus, where we will be happy forever!
