Help! Hubby Is Annoyed!

You forgot something from the grocery store he asked you to get… the kids painted on the walls because you took a longer shower than usual… you scratched the car (OH BOY!)

We have all been there. Our hubby gets annoyed at us for some reason or other. Was it our fault? Maybe? Partially?

When we are accused of something that wasn’t our fault or been the target after hubby has a bad day, it can certainly be difficult to take.

How can we react in these situations?

  1. Try hard to see why your husband is annoyed at you in the first place. Did you listen to what he was saying? Are you trying to understand why he is reacting in such a way?
  2. Listen without becoming defensive. It is so easy to shoot back unpleasant comments in the heat of the moment, especially when we are upset. Often however, what we say in such a state we often regret.
  3. Say less rather than more.
  4. Give him time to cool off. Each time I look back on certain differences we may have had between us, I am always amazed how intense it can feel on Day 1 and how differently we react to one another after a night’s sleep or after 24 hours.
  5. Keep being affectionate towards him even if he remains angry. No harm will come out of this! There is no need to ever raise your voice to your husband. Remember that any message you want to put across is far more effective if said with affection.
  6. Give him a chance and some time to apologise (also remembering that people apologize in different ways. Some say sorry, others give a hug, while others offer words of affection).

Sometimes life just has its difficult moments, but they won’t last forever. With time, everything passes and things will eventually be set right again. If you constantly focus on your husband’s many good qualities then you won’t lose sight of the big picture.

Remember that each of these moments can also be turned around into something more supernatural. Sometimes God provides us with an opportunity to grow in humility because he sees we need it and it is good for us. Let us use these chances to get closer to Him and grow more in love with Him each day!
