Saint Ignatius of Loyola – Saint Of The Week

Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491 to 1556)

Feast day: 31st July

Patronage: Retreats

Saint Ignatius has been named one of the greatest Saints of the Catholic Counter – Reformation.
Ignatius was the founder of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. He inspired so many to follow the will of God.

He was named superior general of the order after it was approved by Pope Paul III. Each Priest received Holy Orders, took vows of poverty, chastity and later obedience. They would venture to any part of the world which Pope Paul III instructed them to, in order to save souls and help them to Heaven. Saint Francis Xavier was also apart of the Jesuit order. The Jesuits built and established universities, seminaries and schools throughout their missionary work in Europe. The effect of St Ignatius can still be seen in our own young society.

He surrounded himself with reading the lives of the Saints, spiritual books and readings about the life of Christ. He made his first spiritual pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady at Montserrat.

Saint Ignatius inspired so many along his own journey to Heaven by following the Will of God. He has recently inspired myself to take up more spiritual reading, so I too can become closer to the Will of God.

Saint Ignatius, pray for us.
