Saint Bernadette – Saint Of The Week

Saint Bernadette

Patronage: Lourdes

Feast: 16th April

Bernadette Soubirous was the daughter of a milling family in Lourdes whom were extremely poor. Yet she was extremely blessed.

Her poor health was a suffering she bore from an early age. Yet God used her suffering and Bernadette submitted to God’s will. Our Lady appeared to her eighteen times, and these appearances were put under great scrutiny before they were made authentic in 1862. The apparitions occurred in a cave above the Gave River, close to Lourdes.

The people built a chapel where the apparition was. Bernadette described Our Lady as a 16 year old wearing a white garment robe with a blue sash and yellow roses at her feet. She held the rosary and taught Bernadette to pray the rosary in one of her apparitions.

Bernadette entered the Sisters of Notre Dame. She still had terrible health although at last could seek some refuge from the public sphere which would question and harass her regarding the apparitions she saw.

Saint Bernadette, Pray for us.
