If you’re running of ideas of how to celebrate this Easter Octave (without resorting to more chocolate of course!) this craft activity might be a good option.
Don’t worry if you’re not proficient at sewing, this is a beginner level project and, alternatively, you can use craft glue or a hot glue gun instead. It also doesn’t take a long time and is a perfect project to do with primary aged kids who like to craft!
There are two options here. One makes an Easter lily with a flat base so that it can be affixed to hair clips or brooches etc. The other option makes a stemmed lily that is suitable for display in vases.
What you’ll need:
Felt – white, green, yellow
Needle and thread – or glue
Fabric scissors
Lime green or yellow wool (option 2)
Green pipe cleaner (option 2)

How to make Option 1:
Cut 2 petal templates from white felt, 1 leaf template from green felt and one stamen template from yellow felt.
Start with the stamen. Roll felt into a tight cylinder and fix in place with a few stitches. Set aside.
Use a simple cross stitch to attach the two white petal pieces as shown below.
Place yellow stamen on top of this cross stitch and sew in place, making sure the stitches go through all 3 pieces.
Starting with the top petal layer, sew the lower edges of the petals together for about 10mm. Continue across all petals on this layer.
Repeat this procedure with the bottom petal layer.
Sit lily on top of green leaf piece and sew in the desired place.
Affix to a hair clip or brooch back. This can also be done via sewing but if you’d prefer craft glue or a hot glue gun would also work well.
Fold down petals until they look like an Easter lily unfurling.
Option 2:
Cut 2 petal pieces from white felt, 1 leaf piece and 1 stem piece from green felt. Cut and knot wool as shown below. (You can choose to cut 3x 5cm lengths, fold in half and then knot as shown. I found it a bit too fiddly but it’s not impossible. If you do it this way skip the following step)
Tie/sew ends of knotted wool together. This will form your stamen.
Cut small holes in the centre of each of the petal layers.
Thread pipe cleaner through both layers.
Add stamen by looping pipe cleaner through and folding it back on itself. Pull back snuggly into petal layers.
Sew petals as in Option 1.
Fold pipe cleaner in half and twist until the open end reaches the base of the lily.
Wrap stem piece around the base of the petals, covering the petal layer and ends of pipe cleaners. Sew tightly in place.
Attach leaf at the base of the stem. Sewing it to the felt layer is much more stable than sewing it to the pipe cleaner.
Once you have your leaf attached in the desired position fold down the petals of the Easter lily.
