BOOK REVIEW ~ “Men, Women and the Mystery of Love: Practical Insights from John Paul II’s Love and Responsibility”

I was excited about reading this book, seeing it praised one day on my Facebook news feed. Anytime I have read or heard anything by Pope John Paul II I have had my mind blown! What an insightful, intelligent, Christ like man he was. I have so much admiration for him. This book works to unpack his writings on “Love and Responsibility”. I thought this book covered a lot of great areas: dating/courtship, modesty, chastity and purity, marriage and love. Upon reading this book, being a married young mother, I started to feel this book wasn’t written for my demographic. I would highly recommend this book to those who are single or who are courting/engaged, because 80% of what was written is geared towards unmarried people, in preparation for marriage and meeting their future spouse.

I was happy that I read it ’til the end though, because once again the beautiful St Pope John Paul shared some of his truly amazing work on married loved. The book finished off by giving an introduction into the Theology of the Body, speaking of his insights into Genesis. Wow! While I was engaged I heard a retelling of his work on the Theology of the Body by Christopher West and I loved it then, having re-read it at the end of this book makes me want to delve back into it again. What richness he unveils about the garden of Eden and the human person. A great book, but as I said, I recommend it to an audience earlier in life! Or an audience wanting to refresh themselves on how to teach these things to their children!
