Unique Wall Decoration Ideas

Here is a fun little project for you! All you need is a wall with a fairly large space which currently has little or no decoration. Below are some simple yet effective ideas on how you could decorate the wall.

All of the ideas and designs are low cost and easy to do.

1) Silhouette photo frames:

Photograph different family members doing various activities, possibly something particularly characteristic. Cut around the outline of the family member doing the activity (e.g: Dad shooting a basketball ) from a black piece of paper. Stick it onto a white piece of paper before framing it. Buy different sized frames of the same colour (or you can paint them).

2) Painted frames with artificial flowers:

This is one of my personal favourites! Buy a selection of frames, paint them in a pastal colour and sand it parts (I used sandpaper) to create that ‘rustic look’. Attach an artificial flower to the corner using craft glue. Use soft colours together (pale flowers, pale frame) and bolder colours together (brightly coloured flowers with a boldly coloured frame).

3) A different artwork in each frame:

Buy 6 to 10 photo frames with a thin black border. Vary the sizes and arrange them to form an overall square or rectangle shape. Be creative and use different pictures, patterns, words and colours in each frame. This will be quite a lovely feature, so choose a blank wall with no other frames or artwork hanging.

4) Different sized canvases layered on top of one another:

Canvases today can be purchased quite cheaply from your local ‘$2 shop’ or variety store. Buy a combination of plain and printed canvases ensuring that you are following a complementary colour scheme. You can use double sided mounting tape (I like to buy the type that removes from the wall without leaving any residue). For larger canvases, you may need a staple gun or craft glue for fixing canvases to each other and a staple gun and string for hanging on the wall.

5) Inspirational words or phrases framed:

Purchase some brightly coloured frames. Print from your computer a inspirational word or phrase onto a white piece of paper. Use a different size font/weight or italicize words. Place them in the frame. You may even like to change the orientation of the frame so the word appears sideways giving your feature wall a more ‘artistic look’.
