The Holy Name Of Mary – Saint Of The Week

The Holy Name Of MaryMadonna_Grapes

Feast: 12th September

This weeks “Saint Of The Week” is not like the others.

As on the 12th September we celebrate the significance of Our Lady; “the bearer of light, light that illuminated her soul and that has become the light for many other soul”s (Giorgi, 2005).

This feast day became a universal feast in 1683 by Pope Innocent XI. Originally the feast was granted to a Spanish dioceses called Cuenca, yet was expanded slightly to Naples and Milan. It was a feast celebrated to give thanksgiving for the victory over the Turks whom threatened Christianity within Vienna.

Recently I have been meditating upon “True Devotion to Mary” by Saint Louis de Montford- It is well worth the time to read, very enlightening and can pick up at random chapters and pages when the demands of Motherhood occur. It can be difficult to read a book from start to finish especially with little ones around your feet- yet this beautiful piece of art lends itself very well to the lives of mothers.

Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for us.
