St Maximilian – Saint Of The Week

St Maximilian

Feast: 12th March

Patronage: Conscientious Objector

Not to be confused with St Maximilian Kolbe, though this Maximilian was a strong man like him. He died as a martyr of the church at the youthful age of 21.

Maximilian strongly resisted idolatry, even when pressured by the Emperor at the time in North Africa.  He had many debates with the Church and sought to find the truth.

Maximilian felt compelled to demonstrate his stance on the current war. He was given orders to go to war yet strongly opposed. He said “my army is the army of God… I cannot fight for this world”.

He was placed to be killed for resisting and said “I shall not die. When I leave this earth, I shall live with Christ, my Lord.”

He showed such faith in Christ.  Faith to go against society, strength to believe in his convictions untill his death.  He had his eyes set on Christ as he suffered.

St Maximilian, pray for us.
