Saint Thomas Aquinas
Feast: 28th January
Patron: University Students, Studies and Universities
“The things we love tells us who we are”
Saint Thomas is a well-known and frequently referenced Saint. He is a doctor of the Church and patron of all university students, studies and universities. He was a learned man with much to teach us about Christ. His ministry life began in the Order of Saint Dominic at the age of seventeen, the Dominicans of Naples. He was given the name ‘Angelic Doctor’ as he was challenged and tempted by his family whom sent him ‘impure women’ to try to break his Priestly vocation. Although this did not affect his vocation negatively, it only made his faith and desire to practice Chasity stronger. After a life of dedication to God, study of the Church and a deep adoration towards the Blessed Sacrament, he was canonized in 1323, declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius V and is a highly regarded Saint whom we can all learn from.
“Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.”
St. Thomas has been noted as a philosopher, preacher, teacher and the greatest and most influential theologian of all time.
“The Eucharist is the Sacrament of Love; It signifies Love, It produces love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life.”
