Feast: 2nd April
St Francis of Paola lead a life of prayer, fasting, work and mortification after leaving the convent he had lived in for three years. He retreated to a cave by the sea and was joined by many followers. He lived as a Hermit and formed the Hermits of St. Francis later called the Minims (meaning least brethren). One source says he is invoked against sterility. Like all good saints he was also close friends with Saint Anthony of Padua.
Patron: Seafarers and Hermits.
