Dissatisfied with the direction feminism has taken, a team of women decided to found a magazine defending womanhood & the legacy of Western tradition.

The idea for Mathilde Magazine was conceived in early 2021, soon after its founding editor Veronika, welcomed her fourth child- a daughter. Discussions in the British Parliament then were underway on the topic of discrimination based on sex & gender. The politically correct term for ‘breastfeeding mother’ was being disputed.  So it was personal. Hearing the argument from one member that this was discriminatory, and should be rectified by changing the term to “chest-feeding person,” became the catalyst for Mathilde.

Since that fateful parliamentary sitting, the idea for a publication that would defend women by standing for reclaimed—not radical—feminism, to facilitate free enquiry into the cultural zeitgeist, and to explore the legacy of Western heritage, has flourished. Now, with the help of a group of talented and determined women, Mathilde— meaning ‘battle maiden’— is due to launch with its first issue in mid September, to be published biannually in hardcopy.

In its pages can be found the sections: ‘Considering,’ ‘Creating,’ ‘Contemplating,’ ‘Child-Raising,’ ‘Culture-Making’ and as well, sections for Poetry and Literary Reviews. The aim of Mathilde is to take the broad view of how women, families and culture are connected to, and affected by, one another.

The foundational values underpinning this endeavour are to defend truth above dogma, freedom of inquiry above groupthink, virtue above virtue signalling, and resilience above victimhood.  It also believes the secret weapon is speaking truth in love— a natural gift of femininity, which the women behind Mathilde believe is something intentional women need to nurture and channel— now more than ever.
