Getting Started With Bible Crafts

One of the most challenging elements of being a Catholic parent is that you want to raise your children in the faith. But how do you approach this with toddlers?

I don’t profess to have all the answers but here are a few easy Bible craft activities you can do with just a few items from around the house.

1. Creation Collage

You will need: Pictures from magazines of natural things like plants, the sun and moon, and animals as well as pictures of angels and a photo of your child, glue, scissors, Bible or Creation storybook, pen and paper.

What to do: After telling/sharing Creation account invite your child to make a collage of all the things that God made, including their own photo. Somewhere on the page write: ‘God made all of these things and God made me!’

2. ‘The Fall’ sponge painting

You will need: A bible or picture book of the ‘The Fall’ account (or you could just tell it yourself), dish washing sponges, paint, scissors and paper.

What to do: Cut an apple and a snake shape from your sponges and discard the rest. Explain to your toddler the Creation story in your own way. Once they seem to have the general idea you can start crafting! We used red paint for the apple print and green paint for the snake but you can use whatever colours you like.

3. Baby Moses jelly

You will need: Blue jelly, jelly babies, marshmallows, Bible.

What to do: Share the story of Moses being sent down the Nile as a baby. Then in a small kid proof bowl place some pre prepared and set blue jelly (mix with a fork to break into smaller pieces). Cut a marshmallow in half (this will be his basket) and place a jelly baby inside. Then place the marshmallow half and jelly baby into the bowl of jelly – an edible treat with a Biblical theme!
