This year our family has been getting especially excited for the Advent and Christmas seasons. As our family grows, each year I try to add one new tradition to our Advent and Christmas routines. This year that new tradition is the renowned Jesse Tree!
The Jesse Tree is a medieval practice of preparing our hearts for the coming of the baby Jesus at Christmas. Each day a new ornament is added to the tree which represents a part of the lineage of Our Lord. Beginning at creation, the Jesse tree takes us all the way through Advent, reading an accompanying bible passage each day, all the way up to the birth of Our Saviour on Christmas Day!
This year I’m really excited to read excerpts of the Bible in this chronological way, and really paint a mental picture for myself and for my children of the lineage of our Lord.
Because our family is from the Holy Land (half of my lineage is from Bethlehem and the other half from Jerusalem) we hold a special devotion to Christ’s genealogy and birthplace. We love to hear stories of the shepherds and wise men, and to picture them all walking on roads that I grew up on.
I hope you enjoy the colouring-in ornaments that I’ve drawn and that they will help you and your family draw closer to Christ this Christmas!
