A favourite which can be snuck into so many family meals…. KALE!
Kale is one of my favourite foods at the moment and ALDI’s sell it! Winning! A large bunch ranges from $2.50-3.50. I like to include it in my family meals throughout the week whether it be stir-fry, curry or meat and three veg kind of dinners. I steam it slightly usually for these kind of meals and surprising the husband doesnt mind it. I even sometimes put it on his cheese and ham toasted sandwiches instead of baby spinach leaves!
Although to get maximum benefits blending up the Kale works a treat! Add to your favourite smoothies or drinks! I add it with coconut water, banana and goji berries!
I just loved this article by journalist Alison Lewis (2012) outlining the main benefits of Kale. She called it a “powerhouse food” “the new beef!”. Her full article is listed below.

The health benefits of Kale include low calorie, high fibre, low fat, high iron, high vitamin K, powerful antioxidents, helps cardiovascular support, high in vitamin A and C, and calcium and is anti-inflammatory (Lewis, 2012).
As I was searching for sources surrounding the benefits of Kale I found this article which made for an interesting read: http://commonhealth.wbur.org/2014/01/the-dark-side-of-kale-and-how-to-eat-around-it
The article mentioning how excess amounts of Kale… I am talking two kilos daily contributed to the death of a woman. This is an extreme case I am assuming?! Basically though the article outlined a balanced diet is key, an over load of any one food could lead to potential problems.
Having a balance in your diet is key! And I love Kale- the taste and the benefits add to a vast range of meals throughout the week to give my family those secret benefits!
