This Easy DIY Bassinet Mattress Protector is quick, easy and thrifty. This is a sure fire solution for keeping your bassinet mattress clean!
You will need:
- A bassinet mattress
- Waterproof material
- Jersey fabric (20cm by 150cm)
- Dressmaking pins and 2 safety pins
- Elastic
- Coordinating thread
- Scissors
- Fabric pencil or marker
- Sewing machine
What to do:
Lay waterproof material out flat. Place bassinet mattress on top and trace around. Cut.
Fold jersey fabric in half, right sides together, with the short edges together.
Pin and sew short edges together. Turn right side out.
Pin jersey fabric and waterproof fabric right sides together.
Sew. For more stability zigzag edges.
Turn right side out and pin a 1 inch hem on jersey fabric.
Sew, leaving a gap to feed in elastic.
Attach on end of the elastic to one side of the opening with a safety pin. Pin the other safety pin on the other end of the elastic and feed through hem. Join the edges of the elastic together and close gap in hem.
Fit on mattress and make bassinet as normal.

I love this, I am going to make one for my granddaughter. My husband needs one of these for him! do you think I could make a huge one? or maybe I should just go to http://www.protectabed.com/content/mattress_protectors.asp and get a waterproof one? I don’t know maybe I will try and make one first. anyone tried this?
