DIY Sensory Tag Blanket In 5 Easy Steps

A perfect handmade present for a baby shower.

You will need:

  • Two different fabrics (choose different colours and textures)
  • Assorted lengths of ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Dressmaking pins
  • Sewing machine

What to do:

1. Cut 2 rectangles the same size, one from each fabric. You can make the blanket any size you like, especially if you have offcuts from other projects, but ours were about 15x20cm.

2. Cut the ribbon into lengths no shorter than 10cm and fold in half. You can cut as many as you like but we used 10.

 3. Pin to right side of one fabric rectangle with the raw edges along the outer edge of the fabric.

 4. Pin the other fabric rectangle on top and sew around edges making sure to catch the ribbon as well. Leave a gap of at least 5cm for turning out.

5. Turn bag out the right way and pin gap closed. Pin the outer edges of the rectangle and sew. Press if desired.

NB. Choose ribbons in different colours and textures and cut into different lengths for more sensory investigation. You could also add another rectangle of fabric like a waterproof layer or noisy dress fabric inside the tag blanket to add a noise element to the toy.
