Christmas cards are generally available from late September onwards but despite being prolifically abundant, finding cards that keep Christ as the centre of their message can be very difficult. An alternative to purchasing Christmas cards, or spending a lot of time chasing down suitable ones, is to make your own.
Here are a few ideas for creating your own cards.
1. Photo cards – dress up your children to make a nativity scene and use the best photo you get as the cover of your Christmas cards. You can either print your own cards at home, or, if you are less technically proficient you can take your digital photos to places such as Officeworks and let them assist you in creating Christmas cards. The other option is just to print the photos and slide them inside photo cards which are just blank cards that have a border on the front into which you can slide your photos.
2. Find a nice picture online, or scan one in from a children’s bible. I used to work for a religious order who did this for their Christmas cards and I can assure you that they found some beautiful images this way. I love this one below!
3. Keep last year’s Christmas cards and cut out any appropriate pictures and design your own cards with a more scrapbook type feel.
4.Skip the card and instead write and print a Christmas newsletter. We do both – because I’m crazy of course – but a Christmas newsletter is a great way to send a lnger message to everyone and if you can print it and fold it straight into an envelope it cuts down a lot of time!
