Calzones
Calzones are basically a pizza that's turned into a pastry! Soooo yum and you can fill it with whatever you have lying around in the fridge. This one is filled with chicken and mushroom stroganoff.
Ingredients
Dough
- 1½ cups self-raising flour
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ cup milk
Filling
- Your favourite pizza toppings leftover stew, stroganoff, bolagnese - the ideas are endless; they can be sweet too!
Instructions
- Sift self-raising flour and a pinch of salt into a bowl and make a well in the centre.
- In a separate bowl beat together egg, olive oil and milk and stir into self-raising flour, mixing all ingredients into a soft dough.
- Turn mixture out onto a floured surface and knead lightly.
- Divide the dough into 3 - the calzones turn out quite large so 1 quantity is probably enough for 2 adults and 2 little kids (1 shared between the kids).
- With the heel of your hand flatten each portion of dough to roughly 1.5cm thick and stretch into an oval. Top half the oval with your favourite toppings leaving a 1 cm gap around the sides.
- When you're done, fold the other half over the toppings creating a parcel and pinch right round to seal. Prick the top a couple of times with a fork to let some steam out. Bake in a preheated oven at 200ºC for 15-20 minutes.
Notes
Serve by itself or with a side salad.
